Treatment of Neuromuscular Pain
Spasticity is frequently accompanied by neuromuscular pain. Treatment for this pain can be approached in various ways, including pharmacotherapy, surgery, and physical rehabilitation.
"Treatment of neuromuscular pain: case study and research in fibromyalgia" Dr. Gordon Ko (biography) English - 2004-02-17 - 36 minutes
(20 slides)
Summary : In this presentation Dr Ko describes the use of tizanidine in patients with fibromyalgia, beginning with a case study of a woman with fibromyalgia, mild spasticity in the legs, and neuropathic pain. After 2 months of tizanidine treatment the patient had lower pain scores.
Uncontrolled studies such as that by Dr David McLain, also show tizanidine to be useful in the treatment of fibromyalgia. Dr Ko describes the results of this study and how tizanidine works to relieve pain, concluding his talk with information on how to prescribe tizanidine for fibromyalgia, and a discussion of how tizanidine is part of the integrative approach for treating fibromyalgia patients.
