Biography
Dr. Mark Freedman
Mark Steven Freedman, BSC MSC MD CSPQ FRCPC is currently Professor of Medicine (Neurology) at the University of Ottawa and Director of the Multiple Sclerosis Research Unit at The Ottawa Hospital – General Campus. Dr. Freedman obtained most of his degrees at the University of Toronto, though he has received PostGraduate Neurology Specialist Training at Queen Square in London, England.
Dr. Mark Freedman has over 20 years of experience in the management of patients with multiple sclerosis , 4 years of research experience in Molecular Biochemistry and Neurochemistry (M.Sc.), 3 years Clinical Biochemistry experience and 17 years in Immunology basic research (Toronto, Israel, Montreal, and Ottawa). He is currently holding peer reviewed and industry related funding for investigating immune mechanisms of multiple sclerosis, with particular interest in the role of dendritic, lymphocytic and monocytic cells as well as cytokines and chemokines.
Dr. Freedman is principal investigator on over two dozen clinical trials with new agents in multiple sclerosis. In addition, he has over 100 published articles, book chapters and abstracts, and has given hundreds of invited lectures, talks or presentations, nationally and internationally. Dr. Freedman is also a member of several international societies for basic research.
